WORKING BOATS OF DISTINCTION
Fishing boats, workboats, passenger boats,
Welcome to this naval architect site. Chris Williams has been designing commercial fishing boats, work boats, trawler yachts, charter, passenger craft since 1971. Over that time he has become well known for vessels with visual grace, exceptional rough sea capability, easily driven economical hulls with low wash, unusually dry decks due to high bows and lean entry, excellent tracking due to the stern designs. All designs comply or exceed requirements for N.S.C.V code, and Lloyd's Special Service Craft code.
On these pages you will find  examples of designs from 6m to 24m in length most of which are available for immediate construction by professional or competent owner builders in steel, aluminium or a combination of both. All plating and cut framing have nested files for computer cutting. Other items such as flat bar stiffeners etc have quantity listing. The cutting can be carried out by any firm of your choice anywhere in the world or by a firm usually commissioned in Australia. The designs are not called boat kits because the parts are supplied through a third party. However, the builder and or owner can contact the designer all through the building process for guidance, calculations and advice at no extra charge. The designer is the one and only person involved in the design so has an intimate knowledge of it for possible customising. Full clear design drawings are provided and stability , power, propeller, anchoring, shafting calculations are included in the design cost .
The Fishing Boats page contains examples of commercial steel monohulls with marine aluminium superstructures. They are very recognisable Chris Williams designs with lean entry, high flared bows. The well known stern design that almost totally eliminates squatting at full speed. Construction is longitudinal flat bars over web frames. All these vessels are repeatedly driven at full speed into rough weather as their owners have such confidence in them and state that the comfort actually increases. Owner's can be contacted for confirmation upon request.
The aluminium catamarans are divided into passenger and fishing but they are completely interchangable. They all have very high tunnels for comfortable rough sea operation. The faster ones have asymmetrical hulls for low wash. Construction is marine aluminium to "Lloyd's Special Service Craft ".
In this updated website I have reduced the number of designs shown to better reflect current trends and concentrate on designs that can be readily customised for a variety of purposes. Please email me for further information at chris@wtm.com.au
